I was one of Brenda’s students for over 10 years and I consider the lessons learned and habits created during this time to be more than essential to my success; it is the foundation. I learned self development methods that fosters leadership and accountability, as well as techniques to maximize productivity and performance. I established habits that keep me confident, balanced, and happy. My routine of meditation and fitness first thing in the morning is an anchor to being the best version of myself. I am a first generation college graduate with a Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering. I have multiple inventions, including one US patent. I’ve been a key note speaker at multiple events, including Engineer’s week at my alma mater and at Space Camp (Huntsville, AL). After 15 years of being an engineer, I’m recognized as a leader in my company and continue to learn and grow. None of this is possible without Brenda’s teaching and mentoring. More important than my titles, awards, or income, Brenda modeled the importance of giving back. I mentor many students, often promoting STEM professions as a career path that is achievable and rewarding. I’ve also learned the importance for family, friends and community. Success goes well beyond reaching one’s goals or “checking” items off of a list. Real success comes from courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit. Years after my routine instruction from Brenda, I still replay the lessons in my memory. It hasn’t made me better, it has made me who I am. The lessons still pay dividends today.
